What is Psychological Design?

Some people call it user experience design, while others persuasion, but I think these terms do not cover the field that I’m deeply interested in.

As we have already learnt from Douglas Adams; the holistic approach is the most efficient way to solve a crime. In my case, I want to be the detective who investigates the kept secrets of “psychological design”. It may seem a scaringly interdisciplinary thing that unites marketing, interaction design, user experience design, graphic design and behavioral economics to solve THE riddle:

How to make products and services more pleasurable for the customer and more profitable for the company at the same time.

To sum it up, we can say that psychological design is the ergonomic approach towards communication and everything related.

I love the idea of your site! I have just found it and cant stop looking through it. I wanted to ask what your thoughts were on best approaching a career in an interesting field like this one. I am a graduating Psych student completely enthralled by this idea of psychology, user experience and behavior economics. But I am a bit confused on how one goes about breaking into this field. Can I pick your brain? Thanks again for the great website.

I have the same questions as Will does. Could you shoot over some information about breaking into this field? All UX jobs seem to require several years of experience first, so I am having a hard time finding a starting point without that experience.
